Your Team

The European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & Healthcare (EDQM) is a leading organisation whose mission is to contribute to public health protection by engaging with an international community of experts and stakeholders. We achieve this by promoting access to safe medicines and healthcare through the elaboration of quality standards, which are recognised as a scientific bookmark worldwide. the EDQM's standards for medicines and their ingredients, compiled in the European Pharmacopeia, are legally binding in its 39 member States (and the European Union) and are also widely used across the globe in the human and animal health sectors. The EDQM also plays a crucial role in the areas of blood transfusion, organ, tissue and cell transplantation and in developing and setting consumer health standards, such as for cosmetics and food contact materials.

The team within which you will work is within the Communications & Events Division (CED).The team runs EDQM’s communications, public relations, and information lifecycle management activities. Within CED, the Communications Section plays a crucial role in shaping the organisation's public image, increasing its visibility and ensuring effective communication both internally and externally. Its activities include developing and executing communication strategies and initiatives for audiences in Europe and beyond, managing media relations, creating content for various platforms and users, and co-ordinating communication efforts for events.

Your Role

As a Healthcare Communications Writer, you will:

  • create content for websites, social media platforms and other communication channels to raise awareness and promote the work of the EDQM;
  • draft communications for a variety of campaigns and promotional materials such as leaflets and publications, videos, podcasts, presentations, etc.;
  • draft speeches for events and presentations and providing support for media relations, including drafting press releases; and preparing spokespersons for interviews (media training);
  • collaborate with internal teams composed of scientists, subject matter experts and others to ensure accurate and consistent messaging across all platforms;
  • act as a “bridge” between the scientific entities of the organisation and the Communications section, translating complex scientific content into meaningful tailor-made communications for each and every audience.
Requirements to apply

You must:

  • hold a higher education degree or qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree (1st cycle of the Bologna process framework of qualifications for the European Higher Education Area) in communications, journalism or a related field and at least 4 years of experience in a scientific communication role in an international scientific environment, in which most of the time was dedicated to creating engaging written content for a variety of channels and audiences, including the wide public, on scientific topics (such as pharmacy, biology, chemistry, health sciences or other related fields);

OR

  • hold a higher education degree or qualification equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree (1st cycle of the Bologna process framework of qualifications for the European Higher Education Area) in sciences (such as pharmacy, biology, chemistry, health sciences or related fields) and at least 4 years of experience in a communication role focused on writing engaging content for a variety of channels and audiences, including the wide public on scientific topics;
  • have very good knowledge of English and good knowledge of French;
  • be a citizen of one of the member States of the Council of Europe and fulfil the conditions for appointment to the civil service of that state;
  • have discharged any obligation concerning national service (military, civil or comparable);
  • not be the parent, child, stepchild or grandchild of a serving staff member of the Council of Europe;
  • be under the age of 65 years.
