Your Team

The Safety and Security Division's mission is to ensure the protection of people and property at the Council of Europe. As such, the Security Section is responsible for the day-to-day management of security issues at the Organisation’s headquarters in Strasbourg. It is based on a mixed structure that brings together external service providers and internal staff members with specific skills and abilities.

Your Role

As an Access and Security Agent you will:

  • ensure that the rules and procedures governing access to the premises are observed;
  • welcome and guide individual visitors and groups of visitors, and issue access badges;
  • take part in controlling access to the Organisation’s premises;
  • take part in visitor security checks (X-ray bag screening);
  • take part in evacuations in the event of emergencies;
  • take part in the escorting of VIPs on official visits to the Organisation’s premises, assist the Head of Sector responsible for the building concerned;
  • perform any other duties of an equivalent level that may be assigned by your superiors, in compliance with the Council of Europe’s standards and values.
Requirements to apply

You must have:

  • either specialised training in a field related to security or at least three years’ relevant professional experience as a security officer or in public security (police, gendarmerie, armed forces, etc.);
  • a very good command of French, in both oral and written communication;
  • a basic knowledge of English, enabling you to understand instructions and guide visitors, if necessary.

You must also:

  • be a citizen of one of the member states of the Council of Europe and fulfil the conditions for appointment to the civil service of that state;
  • have discharged any obligation concerning national service (military, civil or comparable);
  • not be the parent, child, stepchild or grandchild of a serving staff member of the Council of Europe;
  • be under the age of 65 years.
