Your Team

The Council of Europe Office in Georgia assists the authorities in fulfilling their membership commitments and obligations, supports legislative and other reforms, provides expertise in the Organisation’s fields of competence, develops effective training programmes or implements activities such as thematic campaigns. 

You will join the Office's core team, which is part of the Directorate of Programme Co-ordination (DPC), and collaborate closely with all sectors of the Council of Europe. 

Your Role

As a Communication Officer, you will:

  • contribute to the design and implementation of comprehensive communication activities regarding the Council of Europe Action Plan for Georgia, as appropriate;
  • review communication materials prepared by project team members to ensure clarity, accuracy, and results-based communication; provide expert advice, coaching and support to staff on effective communication practices;
  • assist in the preparation of engaging communication materials (including project success stories highlighting the impact of the actions, short videos, infographics) and draft text as required;
  • maintain and update the Office’s website and social media platforms in both English and Georgian; translate and post key messages from headquarters and ensure consistency with the Office’s communication approach;
  • organise and co-ordinate media events, manage media relations and serve as a point of contact for media inquiries for the Office;
  • ensure that all visibility and communication activities comply with the Council of Europe policies and communication and visibility requirements of EU External Actions and other relevant donors;
  • maintain close co-ordination with the DPC Communication Team in Strasbourg and stay in regular contact with the Media Department; monitor developments, identify relevant issues and trends, and advise Office staff accordingly;
  • contribute to collecting, analysing and reporting on media coverage related to the Office’s activities and communication efforts;
  • actively promote the Council of Europe’s values both internally and externally; 
  • perform other duties as assigned, depending on the Office’s needs.
Requirements to apply

You must:

  • hold a completed full course of general secondary education and appropriate professional qualifications in journalism, communications, public relations, or in another relevant field (e.g. law, political sciences, social sciences);
  • have a minimum of three years of professional experience relating to media and communication in the framework of cooperation programmes, preferably in international organisations;
  • have an excellent knowledge of Georgian (first language level) and a very good knowledge of English (one of the Council of Europe's official languages);
  • be a citizen of the host country or one of the 46 member States of the Council of Europe and fulfil the conditions for appointment to the civil service of that state;
  • be currently present in Georgia;
  • have discharged any obligation concerning national service (military, civil or comparable);
  • not be the parent, child, stepchild or grandchild of a serving staff member of the Council of Europe;
  • be under the age of 65 years.

Professional and technical expertise:

  • professional experience in writing, editing and web publishing; 
  • knowledge of visibility guidelines, communication principles, concepts, techniques and methods; 
  • knowledge of the current media landscape in Georgia, preferably in fields directly related to Council of Europe activities; 
  • sound computer skills in standard office applications and IT tools related to web and social media publishing.

What we offer

This job vacancy is for a local external recruitment based on fixed term contracts. Employment is limited to 31 December of the current year and may be extended.
