Your Team

The European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & Healthcare (EDQM) is a leading organisation whose mission is to contribute to public health protection by engaging with an international community of experts and stakeholders. We achieve this by promoting acces to safe medicines and healthcare through the elaboration of quality standards, which are recognised as a scientific benchmark worldwide. The EDQM's standards for medicines and their ingredients, compiled in the European Pharmacopeia, are legally binding in its 39 member states (and the European Union) and are also widely used across the globe in the human and animal health sectors. The EDQM also plays a crucial role in the areas of blood transfusion, organ, tissue and cell transplantation and in developing and setting consumer health standards, such as for cosmetics and food contact materials.

The team within which you will work is within the Laboratory Department which comprises 55 staff members. It is organised in an Analytical Chemistry Division and a Biological Section. The principal mission of the Laboratory, which is working under ISO 17025 accreditation, is to support the European Pharmacopeia (Ph. Eur.) by contributing to the manufacture of its reference standards, i.e. the analytical characterisation and maintenance of the portfolio.

Your Role

As a Junior Laboratory Technician, you will:

  • prepare, set up and run analytical tests on substances for pharmaceutical use and medicinal products in accordance with pre-defined analytical procedures and protocols and in compliance with laboratory safety and quality standards;
  • record, check and report the analytical results obtained;
  • maintain, calibrate, verify and test equipment and instrumentation; potentially be responsible for specific items of analytical equipment;
  • participate in meetings and working groups, and follow up on actions agreed;
  • contribute to the Laboratory’s Quality Management System and the maintenance of its ISO 17025 accreditation.
Requirements to apply

You must:

  • have completed a full course of general secondary education and hold an appropriate recognised national diploma for a laboratory technician in chemistry, biology, biochemistry or related subject;
  • have proven practical experience of physicochemical, biological or biochemical analysis including at least one year of practical experience of conducting analytical testing in a laboratory adhering to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or ISO 17025;
  • have a good knowledge of one of the two official languages of the Council of Europe (English or French); 
  • have a working knowledge of the other langauge (French or English).

 

You must also:

  • be a citizen of one of the member states of the Council of Europe and fulfil the conditions for appointment to the civil service of that state;
  • have discharged any obligation concerning national service (military, civil or comparable);
  • not be the parent, child, stepchild or grandchild of a serving staff member of the Council of Europe;
  • be under the age of 65 years.

    • practical experience in physico-chemical analytical quality control techniques such as liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, spectroscopic methods (IR, UV), mass spectrometry, titration methods, etc. or in analytical techniques in biochemistry / biology such as protein separation techniques, immunochemical methods;
    • ability to use specific analytical laboratory software, including chromatographic data management software.
