Description & Requirements

Your Team

The team within which you will work, the Media Department, serves as the central hub for all media relations. The Media Department provides clear, accurate and consistent information about the Council of Europe’s work and actively promotes its values, positions and decisions.

Your Role

As a Media relations Officer, you will:

  • Follow the activities of the Council of Europe Major Administrative Entities; 
  • Collect information, facts and statistics from both Council of Europe and external bodies;
  • Draft speeches, statements and position papers; 
  • Contribute to overall media work of the Service by expanding media contacts, drafting press releases, statements, articles, factsheets and web items; 
  • Identify key messages to target audiences, including online and through social media; 
  • Promote the Council of Europe values and priorities internally and externally.
Requirements to apply

You must:

  • have the support of the member State seconding you to the Council of Europe;
  • hold a higher education degree or qualification equivalent to a master’s degree (2nd cycle of the Bologna process framework of qualifications for the European Higher Education Area) in journalism or communications;
  • have at least 3 years of relevant professional experience acquired in the field describe above;
  • have very good knowledge of one of the two official languages of the Council of Europe (English or French) and have good knowledge of the other (French or English);
  • be a citizen of one of the member States of the Council of Europe.

    • experience in media communications;
    • knowledge of media relations and social media communications.

  • Professional and technical expertise:
    • Knowledge of another language would be an asset (e.e. Turkish, German, etc.).
What we offer

This vacancy is for a secondment, ruled by Article 23 of Committee of Ministers’ Resolution CM/Res(2012)2. You can consult the conditions of secondment to the Council of Europe (days of leave, allowances etc.) on the webpage What we offer.  This secondment does not foresee any allowances or travel expenses from the Organisation.

This secondment should start as soon as possible.
